My name is Rubi Perez and I’m originally from Brownsville, Texas, but currently reside in Austin, Texas. I’ve always had a passion for math and science which led me to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology through the UTeach program at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
My journey in learning has been filled with challenges, stemming from my upbringing as an English language learner in a household with parents who migrated from Mexico and lacked formal education. It is this background that fueled my decision to pursue a career in education, with a focus on supporting diverse learners. Over the past 6 years, I have dedicated myself to teaching 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade math and science, aiming to make a positive impact in the lives of my students. My goal is to gain more experience to become an instructional coach or curriculum writer. Outside of work, I love spending quality time doing outdoor activities with my husband and our 3-year-old daughter.
This e-portfolio aims to display the learning journey where I acquired skills and competencies throughout the program for a master’s degree in education specializing in curriculum and instruction. Additionally, it offers me an opportunity for self-reflection and personal growth, reflecting on the diverse classes taken.
To navigate the e-portfolio, simply click on the different standards located at the top of the webpage. Each section will clarify how it relates to the standard and showcase artifacts completed in the corresponding courses.
